Dr. Lawrence Quill

Lawrence Quill is Associate Director of the Stanford Center on Ethics and Professor of Political Science at San Jose State University. He received his PhD in Political Theory from the University of Essex, in 2000. His scholarly interests include normative issues surrounding the concept of citizenship and the contemporary manifestations of non-violent resistance in a global context.

He has published in the area of the history of political thought and was a contributor to both the Routledge Encyclopedia of Democratic Thought (London: 2001) and The Routledge Encyclopedia of British Culture (London: 2003). He is the author most recently of Liberty after Liberalism: Civic Republicanism in a Global Age (Macmillan, 2006).
